October 2019
Dr. Heather Edgell, from the Faculty of Health at York University, was nominated for our first Lab of the Month feature.
“The Edgell lab is primarily interested in the cardiovascular health of women since cardiovascular disease is the number 1 cause of death in Canadian women. Our research is currently investigating 1) cardiovascular control in healthy men and women with a specific interest in the role of the menstrual cycle and oral contraceptive use in women, 2) potential interventions to help with symptoms in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and 3) the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation programs in men and women with coronary artery disease. We use interventions such as exercise, breathing different levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide, and upright posture to investigate these topics.”
